Happy Halloween

I have a love / hate relationship with Halloween. I think there is more hate than love. I can't think of anything I really like about it. But I love my kids so I bear with it. And I love that my kids do look pretty darn cute!
As I mentioned in my last post I had 4 days to make the two girls' costumes and 3 days after that to make Jacob's. I hate deadlines but I made it. I finished at midnight this morning. (Hannah, I have to say I thought of you and your love of gnomes as I was sewing these costumes.)
McKay is "Rapunzelgnome." She had to personalize her costume with her own touches. Cruz was a ninja (again) but with swords this year. Kirsten was another gnome and Katanya is supergirl. We had to add a little extra length to her costume. It's so hard to find decent costumes. I guess that it is one bonus to making your own costumes.
The whole gnome idea came from Jacob. He found a toddler gnome costume, took a picture and decided that was what he wanted to be. The girls copied with a girl gnome. All I had was two pictures. I'm very grateful for the sewing basics I learned awhile ago. I have to add that as I was sewing his costume, he was the pickiest one of all. It took everything I had to laugh it off. But it ended up pretty amazing if I say so myself. Back to Jacob's costume....
Not only is he a gnome BUT....
He is Super Gnome.
And not only is he Super Gnome, he is....
Nerdy Super Gnome.
McKay came in late last night and asked what was on the cape. Jacob explained that Gnome was also an operating software program and that the logo on the cape was the logo for the software. She paused for a minute and said, "Dad, you just made your costume nerdy." His reply, "That's the best part."

I hope everyone has a safe, fun, and Happy Halloween.

Trick - or - Treat

This year Halloween was low key in our family. It's like an every other year kind of thing for us. We did the school carnival on Friday night and trick-or-treating last night. I had been thinking the past couple days that I wanted to show our kids what trick-or-treating was like for me as a kid. It's hard being out in the country and having the houses spaced so far apart. But then as we went the rounds, I realized that because we are out in the country, people give A LOT MORE (and better) candy than those in a subdivision. Also the kids (and you) stay warm because the only way to get around is to drive. We went to 15 houses and the kids came back with a little more than half a bag of candy. Three times as much as the number we went too. So in the end, it was easier, faster, and better. I better stop thinking that the grass is greener in the other field.

P.S. I am going to start early on next year and it will be fabulous!

Happy Halloween!

I can go two different ways on this post. One being, how today was so gloomy and windy with the forecast of rain, could ruin everything. It even sprinkled right when I walked out to take pictures. But 45 minutes before we were suppose to go, my prayers were answered..... or two.....

Today we ditched our Halloween tradition and joined in the good old fun of Trick-or-Treating. We started off with Boo at the Zoo, which was fun and surprisingly not packed. Then while I fixed dinner, Jake took the kids to some houses around our neck of the woods. (I am still not allowed to lift Katanya, so Jake got the responsibility of being the chauffeur.) The kids think they got tons of candy, (reality...just enough) but loved everything. Since I made Cruz be the 18th century beau (he didn't really care), after we were done tonight, I promised him that next year he can be whatever he wants. He's already talking about dinosaurs....

P.S. Did I mention how my brother and his wife came up for the weekend. This is a record for him....2 visits within 6 weeks. He picked the right girl.
