an old hobby

Cruz has bugged me for MONTHS and MONTHS for a pair of tractor pajamas. It's not like sewing is hard, it was just on the bottom of my list. So after 11 months, I finally pulled out my sewing machine and surger again. After last year's Halloween project, I burned myself out and hid them away in the back of my closet. When Betsy was here, we took a trip to the fabric store. This is always a mistake for me. I find too many cute fabrics, and have too many ideas. Now I have a stack of projects that have been sitting on my counter for 6 weeks. This stack is also on my to-do list (the list I made after seeing Betsy's. I only want to cross off a couple things a week but so far, I've been very productive.)This week is the week for sewing.
Cruz got his pajamas last night. I even added the applique to the shirt to make it complete. He is in heaven! He even got a second pair of dinosaur pajamas. It's too easy to make him happy.
P.S. For the record, I'm not making - sewing Halloween costumes this year.

Bending over backwards

McKay had her skit today as well as voting. They didn't tell the "elects" the results before school let out as they hadn't finished tallying. Later, I got a telephone call while she was at activity days and....she made it. I also called her best friend's mom and she was elected president. These two are inseparable. (They have their whole future planned out......or so they think.)

P.S. She doesn't know yet. I missed the first phone call and luckily the called my cell phone. I only told her I missed the phone call to the house and she is upset I didn't "run" for the phone. She doesn't get computer priveledges until her homework is done so we will see how long it takes her.

lifesize

Advancing to the General Election, meant two more posters. The PR (dad) opted on one. One LIFESIZE poster that is.
All for a sixth grade election..... I can't wait to see what Jr. High and High School brings.
It was a brillant idea! Elections got moved to next Tuesday. McKay needs to come up with a skit / speech and then the rest is up to the school. (Kirsten is holding her vote over McKay's head for "niceness". Sisters are so great!)

where were you on 9/11?

....on our honeymoon! We had just made it to Glacier National Park on September 10th, 2001. I was sick the whole day with an upset stomach and had not been able to keep anything down. The morning of September 11th, we woke up and finding myself starving I asked Jake to run down to the kitchen and get the free breakfast. Jacob wasn't too happy with me because it was not the way a honeymoon was suppose to be.

As Jacob went downstairs their was a crowd gathered around a 4" TV. Because we were inside the park, no TV's were in any of the hotels. The twin towers had been hit. He ran upstairs to explain the news. The rest of the day we went to the lounge (where there was one bigger TV) and watched the news. It was the first time I had been separated from McKay and I missed her a lot. I ran up quite the phone bill calling her everyday that week. We did enjoy the rest of our honeymoon but someday I would love to go back up there and really enjoy the beauty that we got distracted from.

I count my blessings all the time and I am glad to live in a free country!

Presents and Cake

-Happy Happy Birthday-We had a fun day today. I don't think I could have done anything else to make his day. Although he won't ever know it but he made mine 10x better than his was.

Presents:
Walkie Talkies, (with a 22 mile range, we tested it up to 3 miles today on a quick four wheeler ride. We went to our old house and clear up the hills on the dirt road to the top. Clear as if we were next to each other. We will have to do a farther test next time) a NERF gun with extra ammo, Webkinz, a new bag, a book, and money. Now all the girls want stuff that he got for Christmas.

Dinner:
He chose french bread pizza (that he made himself), grapes and cold corn (cold veggies started in Texas at Betsy's house for us).
He wanted to pick his cake from the store. I was game for anything. Although homemade cake is tastier, sometimes fast things work too!

Cruz is such a sweetheart. He loves working next to his dad and still playing with his sisters. He has a fear for bugs which we are gradually getting by this day by day as we work out by the grasshoppers and other insects.
We Love you Cruz!

Happy Number 5

Our boy turns 5 today. He has waited so long for his birthday as it is the last one in the year. He told me one thing that sounded so sweet this morning. It was "It's my birthday mom, and no one can work on my birthday." Working the past 3 weeks moving trees has really worn me out. It's all I needed to hear. He wants to pick his own cake out with toys on top so we are off to town and a day of fun! We'll keep you posted.

P.S. Cruz is a lady's man. He held Hazel's hand everywhere in Texas. He also holds the girls' hands in primary. On our way to Texas, he informed me he had already kissed his friend. We had to have a "little" talk about that right then and there. I'm afraid what is going to happen when he gets older.

8 on the 8th

It was 8 years on September 8th for us. I was going to use one of our wedding pictures, but I didn't for a couple reasons. When you have a 6:20 a.m. wedding, you don't get a lot of sleep and for some silly reason you can tell we are very tired in our pictures.
Yesterday as I worked along side, still moving trees, I thought about our wedding day a lot. Another reason it's so special is McKay was sealed to us. I remember her running around our house at four in the morning that she was going to go to the temple. She was only 2 1/2 but she knew the temple was a special place. We had been there often. I am very glad I found a special man that wanted both of us in his life. Love you!

It's meant to be....running for V.P.

Last Wednesday, McKay announced her campaign to run for Vice President. There was four people running. Her best friend, Alexia is running for president. McKay, her campaign manager, and her PR (public relations - also known as dad) came up with these great posters. The PR printed them out to be poster paper size. Everybody was impressed.
Primary Elections were held last Friday where only the 6th graders vote. It took it down to two people for each office. McKay's name was announced first with second place coming in as a three way tie. (I still can't believe that happened.) They voted again without McKay and now General Elections are this week where the whole school will vote on Friday. Go McKay! (Her best friend also made it through.)
